About Rare Earth Gallery

Rare Earth Gallery is the work of Wayne Helfand, a former opal miner who in 2012 set out to build a place on a scale he could not find anywhere else, and opened it in Cave Creek, north of Phoenix and Scottsdale, in 2013. The showroom now covers about 10,000 square feet and describes itself as part natural history museum, part gallery and part shop.

Collectors will find raw crystals, clusters and geodes, minerals, fossils such as ammonites, orthoceras, shark teeth and fossil fish, collectible meteorites including Campo del Cielo and Muonionalusta, agates, and petrified wood from Arizona and Indonesia. The other half of the business is decor: gemstone jewelry, carved and polished pieces, crystal furniture and lamps, and statement pieces up to a ten-ton quartz crystal.

Outside, the yard sells natural stone fountains in petrified wood, onyx, travertine, copper ore and basalt, with delivery and installation across the Phoenix area. Smaller pieces can be ordered online and ship nationwide. Phoenix Magazine readers have voted it a Best of the Valley gem and rock shop eleven years running.
