About Natural Expressions
Natural Expressions is a rock shop built around stone for people who make things. Fred Thiele, who has collected rocks and arrowheads since childhood, founded it in Gilbert, and the business has been in the lapidary, rock and jewelry supply trade for more than 35 years, on about an acre of rock, storage and working machinery off Williams Field Road.
Its specialty is crushed stone for chip inlay, the technique used in woodturning and jewelry in which crushed stone is packed into a channel and set with resin. The shop calls itself an original worldwide supplier of the material, stocks more than 200 natural stones and mixes custom color blends. Very little goes to waste: offcuts become inlay chips, and even the rock dust finds buyers.
The rest of the yard serves cutters and collectors: barrels of rough inside and out back, slabs for cabbing and wire wrapping, finished cabochons, turquoise, meteorites, petrified wood and specimen pieces, along with rock saws and crushers. You can pick a geode and have it cut on site, or bring your own material to be slabbed. Buyers from out of state can order by phone or through the website.
