About Mohave County Gemstoners

The Mohave County Gemstoners are a family-friendly rock and mineral club in Kingman, open to every level, from people who have just picked up their first agate to experienced rockhounds. The club's interests cover rocks, minerals, fossils and gemstones, and the time spent finding them as much as the time spent working them.

Meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm at the Kathryn Heidenreich Adult Center, 1776 Airway Ave, and they are open to members and to anyone curious to see what the club is about. The board meets the Thursday before.

Field trips go across Arizona and beyond to look at formations and collect rocks, minerals and fossils; in 2026 one went to Tuba City to see dinosaur tracks and hunt agate, jasper and petrified wood. Members also have study groups on mineral identification, geology and collecting, and a creative side: cutting and polishing stones, a crafting group and a yearly event for handmade work called Artisan Palooza.

The club's Gem and Mineral Show is held every spring at the Mohave County Fairgrounds. The 2026 show drew more than 40 vendors from across Arizona and out of state, selling rocks, gems, fossils, minerals and jewelry, and the Mohave Prospectors Association was there with gold panning demonstrations.
