About A & B Prospecting Supplies (Prescott Valley)

This is the second store of A&B Prospecting Supplies, opened by Ryan and Jocelyn DeShon after they took over the Mesa business in 2005. It stands on State Route 69 in Prescott Valley, which puts it in central Arizona's old placer country instead of down in the Phoenix area.

The stock is the same kind you find in Mesa: metal detectors, drywashers, sluices and highbankers, dredge parts, pans and classifiers, concentrators, hand tools and assay supplies. Anything not on the shelf can be ordered through the company website, which serves both stores.

The location is the point. Lynx Creek, with its public gold panning area in the Prescott National Forest, is close by, and the creeks and gulches around Prescott have been worked for placer gold since the 1860s. A shop a short drive from that ground means a broken drywasher part or a missing classifier can be replaced the same day.

The family history behind the business goes back to Frank Lynn's garage in Mesa in 1979, and it is told on the page of the Mesa store.
