About Prescott Gem and Mineral Club

The Prescott Gem & Mineral Club was founded in 2003 by a handful of rockhounds who wanted to share their love of geology, lapidary and the earth sciences. It has grown into one of the bigger clubs in the state, with members of every age.

Its purposes are spelled out plainly: to learn about minerals, gems, rocks and fossils, to practice the art of cutting, grinding and polishing them and turning them into jewelry, to organize field trips for legitimate collecting, and to bring young people into all of this through a Junior Rockhound program.

The club meets on the first Saturday of the month at 9:30 am at the Elks Lodge, 6245 E State Route 69 in Prescott Valley. Each meeting has an educational presentation, social time and news on the club's activities.

The most visible part of the club is its Gem and Mineral Show, billed as the largest indoor gem and mineral show in northern Arizona. The 22nd edition was held from July 31 to August 2, 2026 at the Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, with more than 75 vendors of minerals, beads, slabs, cabochons, crystals, fossils, meteorites and jewelry, plus lapidary demos, a kids' area, gold panning and geode cutting. The visitors' favorite is the fluorescent exhibit, a darkened room where dull-looking minerals glow under ultraviolet light.

Prescott is gold country too. Just east of town, the Prescott National Forest keeps a stretch of Lynx Creek open for public gold panning, the creek where gold was found in 1863.
