About Havasu Gold Seekers
The Havasu Gold Seekers began in early 1991, when a small group of Lake Havasu City residents got together to prospect for gold in the desert around town. The club started with about 20 men and women. In February 1992 eight members formed an association and filed their first placer claims; at the next meeting the club elected officers and adopted bylaws, and it has been growing ever since.
Besides its claims, the club bought 40 acres of private land near them and turned it into a base camp, the center of club life: family outings, barbecues, camping and of course gold prospecting. Members can park RVs there, there is a waiting list for spaces, and summer camping is allowed from June to August. The camp has its own rules, and so do the claims: members must carry their club card and display the decal while on them.
Meetings are held at the base camp, in the club building, on a Saturday morning of the month from October to April, with the board meeting at 9 and the members at 10. The 2025-26 season shows the rhythm: meetings in October, November, January, March and April, a February meeting on Super Bowl Sunday with a potluck afterwards, a camp clean-up day with a barbecue lunch in January and a St Patrick's dinner with a treasure hunt in March. The club also runs common digs, where members work material together under shared rules.
The monthly newsletter, The Prospector, carries the schedule, the camp news and the plans for the years ahead.
