About The Wizard's Workshop

The Wizard's Workshop is a jewelry and mineral shop on East Fremont Street in Tombstone, run by Don and Kathy Paonessa. The shop's own site describes Don as a prospector, miner, lapidary and gold- and silversmith, and Kathy as a gold- and silversmith as well; the jewelry is made on the premises, and its handcrafted gold and silver work dates to 1974.

The stones are the classics of southeastern Arizona: turquoise, azurite, malachite and the material sold as cambellite from the Bisbee copper district, and fire agate from Slaughter Mountain. Since 1971 the couple have built what they describe as one of the largest private collections of museum-quality Bisbee copper minerals, and the shop carries a large inventory of mineral specimens alongside rings, pendants, bracelets and belt buckles.

Each piece of jewelry comes with a numbered, signed certificate. On the Mindat forum, a collector asking where to find Bisbee material was pointed to the shop, with the note that the owner had collected much of it himself over the decades.
