About Gold Prospectors Association of Tucson (GPAA)

GPAT, the Gold Prospectors Association of Tucson, is the only prospecting club in the city linked to the national GPAA. About 75 members belong to it.

The chapter meets on the third Wednesday of the month from 7 to 9 pm at the VFW Hall of Post 4903, 5320 E Bellevue St, one block north of Speedway and a block and a half west of Craycroft. The GPAA asks visitors to confirm with the chapter before going.

The national association dates from 1968, when it was set up to give small-scale miners a voice and to keep the craft of the old prospectors going. It lists hundreds of claims in a guide for its members, and whatever gold comes out of the pan there belongs to the person who panned it. The chapter adds outings, people to learn from and someone to ask about the claims closest to Tucson.
