About Raining Rocks

Raining Rocks is the business of Suzanne Morrison, a geologist who took her degree in geology and environmental science at Northern Arizona University after a childhood visit to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum hooked her on rocks. She has worked for the National Park Service and at Colossal Cave and Meteor Crater, hunted meteorites, appeared in two episodes of Meteorite Men, and has sold rocks since 2014, starting with a first collection bought on a small loan from her mother.

Meteorites and impactites are the specialty, from pallasite slices to moldavite, next to minerals from old collections and new finds, fossils, carved and tumbled stone, jewelry, faceted gems and rough, lapidary rough, slabs and cabochons, and books. Ilana Brin handles acquisitions and much of the customer side. A large share of the trade happens online, through the website and live sales on social media, and orders ship worldwide.

The shop has bought the historic Kino Rocks and Minerals on the Nogales Highway, a fixture of the Tucson rock trade since 1958, and is remodeling it. Until that work is done it opens by appointment, and the site is gated, so text or call first.

Raining Rocks also buys collections of every kind, from minerals and meteorites to slabs and old lapidary equipment, and offers identification by appointment for a fee.
