About Gila County Gem & Mineral Society
Globe and Miami, two towns built on copper in the mountains east of Phoenix, share one rock club: the Gila County Gem & Mineral Society. It has been around for decades: its yearly show reached its 64th edition in 2021.
Members meet on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm in Miami, next to Oasis Insurance on W Live Oak St, which is Highway 60 through town. Guests are always welcome.
The society's big event is its Gem and Mineral Show, held every January at the Gila County Fairgrounds in Globe, with the next one set for January 2027. In spring the club also holds a show and sale at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum in Miami.
The Globe-Miami district is one of the great copper districts of Arizona, and much of the ground around town belongs to the mines.
