About Rocking and Rolling

Rocking and Rolling sits in Carson City's historic district, a few blocks from the Capitol. Jeanette Champagne, a retired geologist, bought the shop in 2010 after watching the property for two years. She started in one section of the house and over the following years took over the whole building, turning it into a multi-room rock shop.

She still closes the shop now and then to go out collecting, and much of what is on the shelves is Nevada material she found herself; she can usually tell you where each piece came from. Customers who ask where to look get pointers to collecting areas around the state, and the shop keeps a shelf of rockhounding books and field guides.

Rocks, crystals and minerals share the rooms with beads, jewelry, local and western art and Made in Nevada products. A western room is given over to Nevada history and to signs made by her partner, Jim Hill.

The shop has long been a meeting point for local collectors: when it opened, so many rock lovers came by that Jeanette started a rock club in Carson City, the High Desert Rockers.
