About Earthforged Rock Shop
Earthforged started as a sideline. Mark King, who left a career at NASA once rocks took over, began by selling wire-wrapped stones from a table at the Limestone Flea Market. Over the years that table turned into a stock of crystals, minerals and fossils bought from mines and suppliers around the world, and finally into a full shop on Shields Road in Huntsville. By the shop's own account he has been collecting and sourcing for more than three decades.
MaCayla Sampson works alongside him. Her start with stones came at about eight years old, when she cracked open a big rock and found amethyst inside, and that moment is more or less what the shop offers its visitors: you choose an unopened geode, it is cracked in front of you, and you take home whatever was inside.
The shelves mix museum-grade pieces with everyday finds: mineral specimens, trilobites and other fossils, gemstones, rough for cutting, beads, carvings and jewelry. One section is kept for Alabama material, such as petrified wood found in the state. Outside, specimens line a garden path with a koi pond and sculptures before you reach the door.
Much of the finished work is made in the building. Stones are cut, polished and wire-wrapped on site, and cut geodes become small display scenes. If you bring in a rock, mineral or fossil you can't name, the shop offers identification and an informal idea of value as a paid service, agreed before any work starts. Only a small part of the stock is on the website, so for something specific ask the shop directly; online orders go out within the United States.
