What Eureka is
Eureka is an informational map of places where gold, gems, minerals and fossils have been reported. It is built mainly from public government data sources.
The map is not a permission
A site on the map, and its color or status, does not mean that you are allowed to search, dig or collect there. Land status, mining claims, closures and rules change over time, and public records can be incomplete, outdated or wrong.
Check before you go
Before visiting any site, verify the current land status and rules with the agency that manages the land, for example the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service or the relevant state agency. Respect active mining claims and private property, and follow all permit and collecting rules. Rules for fossils are especially strict: on federal land, vertebrate fossils may not be collected without a permit.
Your safety
Many sites are remote. Old mines, shafts, rivers and desert terrain can be dangerous. Never enter abandoned mine workings. You are responsible for your own safety and for the safety of anyone with you.
No warranty
Eureka is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, damage, injury, fine or legal consequence arising from the use of the information on this website.
