About Carlin Trend Mining Supplies & Service

Carlin Trend Mining Supplies & Service takes its name from the Carlin Trend, the belt of gold deposits west of Elko that made northeastern Nevada one of the great gold-producing regions of the world. The store opened in 1995, founded by registered geologist David C. Knight, and is still family run. It began by selling supplies to the geologists and crews working the trend, together with a temporary staffing service.

Most of the shelves still serve fieldwork: rock picks and hammers, hand lenses, compasses, field vests, sample bags, sieves, GPS units, flagging and tape, survey and drafting supplies, and topographic maps. The same tools serve weekend prospectors, and the company also handles claim staking.

Inside the same building is the Rolling Rock Gallery, voted the best place in Elko to buy a unique gift by readers of the Elko Daily Free Press in 2011 and 2012. Next to the toys, science kits and books it sells museum-quality minerals and fossils.

Supplies can also be ordered from the online store and shipped. The company runs a second location in Superior, Arizona.
